Homestead Exemption |
Deducts up to $ 25,000 from the property's assessed value, lowering your property tax.
Who's eligible:
All Florida legal residents who hold title to the property and occupy their property as their primary residence on or before January 1st of the tax year the exemption is filed for.
(Legal resident means that the state of Florida must be your legal domicile exclusive of all other states or country)
When to file:
Between January 1st and prior to March 1st.
How to file:
You must appear in person any time prior to march 1st, at one of the offices listed below. You will also need to have a Florida driver's license, Florida car registration, voter's registration or declaration of domicile, title policy, recorded deed, phone and electrical bill showing the address on the property that you are filling for exemption on. You will also need to show your social security number.

Florida law also provides for a $500.00 exemption on property taxes for an unremarried widow(er); serviceman with at least a 10% service connected disability or a resident certified to be legally blind and/or totally and permanently disabled by two licensed Florida physicians who are professionally unrelated or by the veteran's administration. In addition certain disabled persons are entitled to a total exemption from property taxes- for details, one must consult one of the property appraiser's office.
